PERFORMANCE TOURS - AUSTRALIA'S SOUTHERN STARS
A group of 110 students from three high schools in Australia, flew to California from Sydney at the end of December to participate in the 118th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on January 1st, 2007. Under their traditional black ranger hats they tooted their horns, fifed their pipes and banged their drums to the delight of over a million people lining the sidewalks and many more watching on TV. The girls twirled their batons, swirled their ribbons and danced to familiar tunes that we could all hum along to. From Waltzing Matilda to R.E.S.P.E.C.T, you couldn't help but tap your foot or clap your hands, in between the shouts of encouragement and congratulation. A bevy of supporters, parents and teachers came along for the ride to cheer them on and document this unforgettable experience on film and in photos.
California Tour Consultants arranged all their hotel accommodations and transportation for the two-week trip as well as the various performances at Disneyland in Anaheim, at Seaport Village in San Diego, and at the Hoover Dam in Las Vegas before coming to San Francisco. Here they opened MacWorld at the Moscone Center then strutted onto Union Square and before the Mayor's Office in City Hall at Civic Center Plaza. The Australian Consul Generals in Los Angeles and San Francisco sent their good wishes and the group received Letters of Welcome from Oscar Goodman, Mayor of Las Vegas and Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco.
The days were also filled with city sightseeing and excursions to Seaworld, Universal Studios, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay.
CTC is very proud to have hosted the Redbacks of Karabar High School, the Upper Hunter Showband and the Marching Koalas during their 2007 trip to the USA. The bands are under the direction of Alison Cronan-Nilon, Geoffrey Lynch and Adam Wills.
